The rumors of my death …

January 6th, 2007

Googling my name I discovered the following film strip.

Death Had Come to Jim Andrews on Vimeo

No, it isn’t me or even anyone related in any way. In fact, it is probably a fictitious name akin to John Doe - odd how times change.

Apologies to my readers

Akismet is a wonderful tool, but I am, too often, an absentee website author and neglectful of my own blog(s) and sites. Today, I unspammed a few comments that were little more than ferverinos (’keep up the good work’ & ‘right on target’) with a link home that I didn’t visit (though I said I would before adding them.)

I never intended my online writing to be commercial or an exercise in vanity publishing. I strove to keep what I posted objective rather than personal, but I begin to see that as an unrealistic goal. There really is no objective observer.

The seven percent solution

October 20th, 2006

Some may think this is a reference to Sherlock Holmes and the literary criticism that pointed to his cocaine addiction which was a sub-text of his character. Supposedly glorifying drugs or possibly just a human failing of this fictitous character explaining his need to challenge himself with mental exercises.

Well you’re wrong. This came via email to me and was worth passing along so here you have it.

A holy man was having a conversation with the Lord one day and said, “Lord, I would like to know what Heaven and Hell are like.”  The Lord led the holy man to two doors. He opened one of the doors and the holy man looked in. In the middle of the room was a large round table. In the middle of the table was a large pot of stew which smelled delicious and made the holy man’s mouth water. The people sitting around the table were thin and sickly. They appeared to be famished. They were holding spoons with very long handles that were strapped to their arms and each found it possible to reach into the pot of stew and take a spoonful, but because the handle was longer than their arms, they could not get the spoons back into their mouths. The holy man shuddered at the sight of their misery and suffering. The Lord said, “You have seen Hell.”

They went to the next room and opened the door. It was exactly the same as the first one. There was the large round table with the large pot of stew which made the holy man’s mouth water. The people were equipped with the same long-handled spoons, but here the people were well nourished and plump, laughing and talking. The holy man said, “I don’t understand.”

“It is simple” said the Lord, “it requires but one skill.  You see, they have learned to feed each other, while the greedy think only of themselves.”

When Jesus died on the cross he was thinking of you!  If you are one of the 7% who will stand up for him forward this with the title 7%.  93% of people won’t forward this!

Santorum’s troubles

October 14th, 2006

Bob Casey has a very impressive page set up with 51 things Rick Santorum doesn’t want you to know but it is even cooler that he has it in a pdf version for you as well.

Democrats.org has one post called “Will Slick Rick Flip On the Minimum Wage?” that’s worth checking out…

As Americans mark the 10th Anniversary of the last time Congress raised the federal minimum wage, Pennsylvania Republican Senator Rick Santorum must choose between two of his most extreme, out of touch positions.

Democrats.org has another post called “PA-Sen: Shamefully Out of Touch” that’s worth checking out…

In his book “It Takes a Family,” radical right-wing Senator Rick Santorum stated: “In far too many families with young children, both parents are working, when, if they really took an honest look at the budget, they might confess that…

Coming Out Day

October 11th, 2006

A new friend reminded of this day’s importance to him and his community.

“National Coming Out Day is observed on October 11 by members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) communities and their allies.”

“The day commemorates October 11, 1987, when 500,000 people marched on Washington, USA, for gay and lesbian equality. National Coming Out Day events are aimed at raising awareness of the LGBT community among the general populace in an effort to give a familiar face to the LGBT rights movement.”

Folks know me as being open-minded and some call me empty-headed. I’ve worked with a good number of people with a different sexual orientation. I don’t recall many looking to recruit me (which may say more about my looks and how desireable a target I am) but I think from watching their actions and listening to them - that isn’t their way. They do look down folks within their community who take advantage of young folks - even more severely than heterosexuals - they are less prone to draw an arbritray line of age and equate it to maturity.

He asked I mention and suggested
